Thank you all for reaching out, sharing your love, memories, condolences, and support in response to the recent tragedy in our family.
Some CSC family and community have inquired about what happened. With heavy hearts we share that our beloved brother and colleague, Kokayi Danladi and fellow artist Anthony “Zin” Mills were killed in the tragic car crash on Colorado Blvd. on Sunday, January 3.
Kokayi was a solid, stand up teammate and friend, and a devoted family man. He was an exceptionally talented musician and gifted educator who was extremely influential in the work of CSC, his legacy will live on enduringly. There are not words to describe the loss to his family, CSC, and our community.
CSC created the Kokayi Danladi Award and the Kokayi Danladi Family Fund in memory of our brother and colleague who transitioned to the ancestral realm on January 3. The award honors community members and CSC team members who reflect Danladi’s dedication, integrity, love, and levity. He embodied the integrated work of CSC, holding everyone’s needs with care while standing for truth, justice, and equity. Kokayi Danladi’s legacy will live on enduringly through his family, his music, and CSC. The first award was presented to Aleja Parsons, at Kokayi’s Memorial Celebration in January, and to Ronnie Harvey at the Grant Beacon Middle School student showcase in May.
